The driver of the orange-colored car, Sujan Singh (35) managed to escape unhurt after noticing smoke coming out of the engine. He told the police that he noticed smoke emanating from the rear side of the car, which houses its huge engine, soon after he took a U-turn under a flyover. Seconds after he came out, the car caught fire, said the official. “I stepped out of the vehicle after smelling the smoke. I did not face any problem while driving from Hauz Khas to Badarpur. The reason for the fire is still uncertain,” he added. However, the fire was restricted to the engine in the rear. Singh then called the fire department which sent a tender to extinguish the flames. The car was registered in the name of one Satya Prakash, reported to be a businessman based in Sarvapriya Vihar of Hauz Khas. Bhadla owns several businesses in south Delhi and is currently abroad, said the police official. The car is less than five years old. No police case has been registered. Need for Speed or something else “The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The car has been sent for a thorough analysis,” the official added. Vehicles manufactured by Lamborghini usually have an inbuilt safety system that does not allow short circuit in the wiring say experts. However, engines of such cars get heated up, if they are driven slowly. This could have led to the fire in this case. “The low chassis leads to dust and debris entering the engine which can cause fire,” said an expert. The Lamborghini Gallardo is one of the fastest vehicles of the brand with a 543 horsepower engine with a top speed of 320 kmph. It can reach 0-100 kmph in 3.9 seconds. The Gallardo went out of production in 2013. It is Lamborghini’s bestselling car model with 14,000 cars sold in 10-year period. The Gallardo was succeeded by the Huracan in 2014.
